Op-Ed: Guardians of the Galaxy is Already Awesome

Something is happening…

I’m totally psyched for Guardians of the Galaxy.

Now let me explain… I’m a Marvel Comics fan. I’m not a rabid fan, but I have my collection I’ve had since I was a kid. I know the heavy hitters: Spider-Man, X-Men, Iron Man, Captain America and the list goes on. Last year, when I saw the teaser for Guardians and found myself saying, ‘what the hell is this?’

In my head, I doubted the existence of the team in the Marvel Universe. I had never heard of these guys, but I didn’t care. There’s a certain air of arrogance there and that’s okay, even though there’s a raccoon parading around with a gun bigger than he is.

Did I mention he spits and grabs his raccoon crotch? He gives no fucks.

Damn it feels good to be a gangsta!

The other interesting thing is I find myself interested in the promotional materials more than any other movie. Posters have been extremely gratifying for me and I find myself interested in it more and more.

The roster has me thinking too. How do a madman, an assassin, a raccoon with hired tree muscle and Chris Pratt?! Chris Pratt from Parks and Recreation?!

No words

Not only did Marvel stick with this decision, it works!

I’ve been a hermit when it comes to this movie. I’m sold. My ticket is bought. Even if the movie is bad, I’m happy. Why? Because I can’t remember the last time I’ve been amped for a movie I didn’t know anything about. There’s usually a certain level skepticism. And the rest are movies that I’ve been waiting for. Guardians is a leap frog product. I know nothing about it and I’m dying to see it. I represent Marvel’s target demographic.

Let’s just revel in this moment in the days leading up to the premiere. I’ll stand here and wonder what’s up with Wonder Woman’s outfit.
